Wireless networking not working in 11.3 M1

The wireless networking doesn’t seem to be working in 11.3 M1. I’m using a Linksys WRT54G (latest firmware) which worked fine on 11.2 with WPA_PSK encoding. I started with NetworkManager which would not connect. Then tried it with Wicd which also bombed out with the message that it could not get d-bus connection. Finally tried manual configuration but iwconfig won’t accept the key!

laptop:~ # iwconfig wlan0 key s:asdxxxxxxxxxxxxxioMNBVC
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
    invalid argument "asdxxxxxxxxxxxxxioMNBVC".

I’ve tried deleting the user connections under ~/kde4/share/apps/NetworkManagement/connections but that didn’t help.

Everything in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0 looks okay with the exception of the WPA_PSK key.

Any ideas what else to look at?

I have tested 11.3 M1 with unencrypted, WEP 104-bit, WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK
encryption using the rtl8187 driver. All are OK. I used NetworkManager for all
cases.

In your example, you are putting in the WEP key using a passphrase. In my
experience, that seldom works with Linux as most APs use a different algorithm
for conversion between passphrase and key.

Thanks for the advise but the problem exists regardless of encryption (WPA, WEP, open). Even using completely open (unencrypted) settings I can’t get a connection with the wireless. Modprobe showed “iwlagn” driver loaded which is the driver listed for my wlan card (Intel 5100).

Will file a bug report on this.

I have the same problem with upgrade to kernel 2.6.33.rc5-1
until then my wireless was working ok

What device/driver? For the record, kernel 2.6.33-rc5 works fine with all my
devices including several BCM43xx, RTL8187L, RTL8187B, and Dell DW 1450 USB.

NetworkManager worked perfect in 11.3 M1 for me with Lenovo laptop with Intel Wireless 3945ABG, driver iwl3945.

And I am really impressed by KDE 4.4 - thanks very much!
