Wireless network oddities in 12.2

I just upgraded my Thinkpad x200s from 11.4 to 12.2, via DVD + network updates via wired connection.

First boot with wreless it gave me no network. An hour of poking, trying to find a driver for my PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] and it came up.

This morning it had no wireless network at all. It just did not seem to be switched on

Eventually rebooted – no change – and then rebooted in safe mode. Behold a wireless connection (but no routing)
So at present it is up with the iwlwifi driver.

How can I get a secure wireless connection?

I use ifup etc no network manager, no KDE, no Gnome

Quick update; it now initialises the wireless but fails to provide the (static) IP address or routing gateway. i have added lines to /etc/init.d/boot.local to fix it up, but still do not see why it happens, or why there is so much text on booting

i’d suggest you leave the install-boot-login forum and go to the
wireless networking forum here http://tinyurl.com/4lq2s9z

when you get to that page you will see three “sticky” threads right at
the top, one or all three of those should get you going maybe
depending on how good they are at setting up a system with your chosen
DE…or, what might have been twisted the wrong way before you get to
those pages…

if those don’t get you going, they will at least tell you what
information to include in your first post to the correct forum…do that
an maybe someone can then help you…

oh, and since you say you upgraded from 11.4 to 12.2 you need to tell us
how you did that, because your symptom might be due to a failed
upgrade…even correctly attempted upgrades and not always successful,
here are the supported ways:

http://tinyurl.com/93uemsr
http://tinyurl.com/7l4m2td

mention which method you used as well as the DE you are using?

After an upgrade there are still things to do, like clear up the rpmorig/rpmnew files, ensure there
are no stale rpms… Did you do that?

Offline upgrade method
