Wireless 'keep alive'

Suse 12.3 kde using ifup.

just looking for some comments/inspiration/advice. Sorry for the way I write this as I am not familiar with all the terminology etc.

I have everything (desktop, laptop, smartphone, tablet etc) networked using wifi.

I have and NFS exported from the desktop/main computer (but its not set up as a server in the true sense as its a desktop if that makes sense) so NFS server is running as is SSHD .

If the desktop is left running, but not used in terms of ‘sat at it’, it seems that after a while some of the services are ‘parked’ - in other words and in particular, i cant access the NFS or SSH into it. msgs such as No route to host are seen etc.

I am not sure it is the Power management as I think I have Power management settings to not affect the Wifi.

It seems to me that the network/wifi is ‘suspended’ - or something after a while. I once read that the energy saving screen settings affect things, but i cant pin that down (tried setting all power management things ‘off’ but no success). I also read the Wifi ‘beacons’ on routers and clients can result in ‘suspension’ as such, but im not familiar enough to sort that and in any case, in previous suse releases i have not had this problem as far as i can remember!

So, simply, whats the best way to make sure the Wifi is kept-alive (assuming it is this that results in the connection problems) ?

Incidentally, when I check ‘connected devices’ on the dhcp router (netgear) , the desktop disappears from the list occasionally.

Thanks for any ideas etc.
