Wireless issues - Unable to connect / stay connected?

Yup, it’s another wireless internet problem thread…

I’m a new linux user, and have been trying without success to get my openSuSE 11.4 box connected to the internet. I managed to get as far as being intermittently able to successfully ping my router; in other words, not very far. When I am able to ping my router, I’m still unable to ping any external addresses.

Here’s the output of the commands listed in the stickies:

I limited the output of dmesg to only include lines with ‘wlan0’ in them, so as to (hopefully) include only relevant information. I’m pretty sure it’s not a firmware issue as I didn’t see any lines indicating such in the full output of dmesg, but at this point I don’t want to exclude anything as a possibility.

To me it seems like it’s likely a driver issue, if not then a firmware issue. Of course, this brings up the question of how exactly I go about properly installing these missing packages onto my computer without an internet connection, as I clearly won’t be able to use any terminal commands to do so.

Any help with this is much appreciated!

HCL:Network (Wireless) - openSUSE

Hi caf, thanks for responding.

I had already looked at that thread, and ensured that I am using the rt2870sta driver and have the kernel-firmware-2.6.38-1.2.1.noarch package installed, but my wireless still refuses to cooperate. Any other suggestons?

Try running this
http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/driver:wireless/11.4-update/ralink-firmware.ymp?base=openSUSE%3A11.4&query=ralink

Installed the package from that link but I don’t see any drivers in the Network Card Setup page when I try to set up my wireless through YaST, so I’m still unable to connect.
