wlan0 Interface doesn’t support scanning : Network is down[/QUOTE]

I dont know whether it is important but…
I also tried option with YAST->Network Devices->Network Setting → Enabling Traditional method of ifup …but i dont knw / dont want to use command line to connect to the wireless AP.

After reverting back to the **User controlled Network Manager ** Option …network manager Applet is showing Enable wireless option (which was disabled previously)…but still unable to activate…(it gets revert back after clicking)…

Try installing kernel-firmware and reboot.

Thanks for reply…

But kernel-firmware is already installed. Kernel-firmware (ver.2.6.38-1.2.1).Any other solution?

I installed RFKILL… and also used **“rfkill unblock all”
**
now I’m having output for
Quadraplex3000:/home/ebenash# ifup wlan0
wlan0 device: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection
wlan0 warning: wpa_supplicant already running on interface
DHCP4 client is already running on wlan0
DHCP6 client is already running on wlan0

But still after reverting back to NetworkManager option…“Enable Wireless” from applet is grayed out.
Someone help please…

After unblocking with RFKILL…Wireless enable option is now available in NetworkManager applet(AP is also visible)
But the device seems to be busy…

Quadraplex3000:/home/ebenash# iwlist scan
lo Interface doesn’t support scanning.

eth0 Interface doesn’t support scanning.

wlan0 Interface doesn’t support scanning : Device or resource busy

And NM is keep on asking for encryption key

Please help

Hi,

have you found anything useful in /var/log/NetworkManager? I’m having problems with the same wireless chip and that’s where I’m troubleshooting at the moment. In my case connecting to a wlan for the first time worked but afterwards something goes wrong and the software deactivates the wlan device. :frowning:

Cheers, S

@shoerder Sorry but I dont knw much stuff here…I think problem is that…wlan0 interface is not getting UP automatically(unless u use traditional ifup method)

I had it working once…when i tried “rfkill unblock all”…but this setting resets on every boot…
and now …its even worse…RFKILL is not able to unblock my wireless lan (i mean soft lock…hardware lock obviously is okay).
And on “iwlist scan” …Device or resource busy …again

Ill post soon if found something useful.

openSUSE starter: Step 2. Need mobile broadband? Use the GNOME applet - try using the GNOME thingy, if you use KNM, how irrational it might sound, KNM might cripple even your ifup.
