Wireless driver installtion problem

Hello, Im all new to Linux, opensuse in particular… I was really excited about finally entering the green beatifull world of suse, sadly I have problems with it… but no problem right? just go to the net and get support, right???

Sadly, that is not possible! The problem I have is not being able to connect to the Internet. Linux DOES discover the router, but won’t connect. Some advice to deactivate the security of the router, but I sure don’t want to do that. So I used this website for help

Intel 3945 a/b/g Wireless problem in openSUSE 11.0 | SUSE & openSUSE

I did get through the most part (at least I think I did… ) but this is where it stops

OPENSUSE:~/compat-wireless-2008-07-01 # make && make install

At this point it says that it’s not a file or directory, or that it’s a directory… is this command really correct?

Sorry if threads like these been written… but please help!

If you are 3945 it should work out of the box

I can’t see why you would need to install the driver you link to.

sorry but im still new in this… how do I check if I am 3945? could I check that on the installation DVD in windows?

setup in yast and then via networkmanager
consider your essid info, wep or wpa security, access control? mac address, lan ip address

There is just one thing I want to add. The 3945 driver should work quite well in openSUSE 11.0… that’s depending on how new your hardware is. Could you give us some more specifics on what system you are running on?
The post you mentioned on the 3945 wireless problem seems to mainly focus around 4965 chipsets…

Also, if this is a fresh setup & you have not connected to the internet yet… that also means you have not had a chance to apply all the updates available for your openSUSE setup.

If that’s the case, …do you have a wired connection that you can use for that? It’s possible that your issue is solved by simply updating you system.

I guess a simple update would help… problem is… I’m from Poland… already mentally we are ages in the past, but also when it comes to technology we suck

my internet provider never thought someone could possibly want to use their modem on a linux operational system…

So no way to connect it like that sadly

Listen to what caf4926 has to say. You apparently have a perfectly working wireless card, why do you insist on changing its driver? On the other hand, you should be troubleshooting the connection to your router which is faulty, but you “sure don’t want to do that”. Well, sorry for breaking it to you, but it’s exactly what you’ll have to do to get out of this standstill. Forget the driver which is working and start setting up a wireless connection in YaST and/or in NetworkManager, following the links given you.
… no offence. I’m just grumpy, nothing personal.
Describe your setup more in detail. How are you connected to the modem? Is there a wireless router in-between? What protocol? 802.11 b, g or n-draft? What encryption? WEP, WPA? How do you connect to your ISP? With an username and a password? PPOE? Other?

ehhhh there does seem to be a bit of a problem now thought… my brother who is on the other pc also using the same router says that his internet connection keeps freezing all the sudden… don’t know if it’s just cause Im updating or something…
