My wireless connection isnt’ working,( i have no linux wireless driver? ) i’m running opensuse 11.0 32 bit on a HP compaq 6715s laptop. I haven’t found on the internet any driver for this kind of laptop. I’m also running windows XP on this laptop, and i have no problems with the wireless driver for it.
Here appears that i have no firmware file b43/ucode13.fw. I’ve searched the internet for this firmware, but i have found only ways to download it from a linux machine, with sudo install or something like this. But my internet isn’t working, (i have no wired connection, only wireless). where should i search for it? Do you have any link?
Hi Tony, I’m using an HP Compaq 6715s with wireless to write and send this. I had the same problem, but then did what lwfinger wrote in the sticky “My wireless doesn’t work - a primer on what I should do next” in the wireless section of this forum. Go to the last post which explains how to install the driver for BCM43xx wireless device. It worked perfectly for me.
I just read what I suggested you read, and it’s not what I thought it was, oops. What happens when you enter the following in a terminal?
sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware
(Please note the space between sudo and /usr)
This should install the firmware (not driver, which is what I meant to write). As I am not an expert, I am only quoting from the the “Welcome” sticky.
Once the firmware is installed, open yast and configure the wireless. I’m using Knetworkmanger.
I just found the thread that I used to set up my wifi.;)(see Wireless Not Working, openSUSE 11, HP 2133, Broadcom WLAN)
The BCM4312 works with 11.0 using the b43 driver. In fact, I'm using one now.
The bottom line with the native driver on Linux is that you need to install the
firmware. It is not distributed by anyone due to the restrictions of Broadcom.
Because you have network access while in Linux, you should open a terminal and
enter the following command:
sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware
This will install the necessary firmware. If you have blacklisted any drivers to
try to get ndiswrapper installed, reverse those changes.
To configure the wireless device, you should use YaST. Select Network Devices /
Network Settings. Your wireless device will likely show up there, but add it if
not. My preference is to use NetworkManager (selected in the global tab). Once
you have added the device there and finished, click on the KNetworkManager icon,
select "Edit Connections" and add a wireless connection.
If your laptop has a wifi kill switch, please be certain that the switch is on.
If you have any problems, please post the output of "dmesg | grep b43".
Hello all, I just registerd on this forum because you guys are the only one that popped up by my google search.
I hope i don’t get flamed in here because I have a huge problem with my 6715s and on windows forums I cannot find the help-fix I Require.
First I want to say sorry for bumping up this tread, but I kinda have the same problem, I hope you guys want to help me with this.
My problem is this±
Windows(crap) vista sp0/sp1 makes my laptop really unstable + the sound/video chops/stutters if i enable my wlan. ( thats the problem becuz wireless is a must )
Searches of this problem ended up with xxxxxxxxxx results but still didn’t found a solution for it ( they said service pack 1 solved it… but no )
Anyhows the reason why I’m posting here is:
I cannot find drivers for windows xp for this laptop, I went to the HP site ( HP Compaq 6715s Notebook PC - Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center ) But all is vista, vista, vista. I want to format my hdd, kill win vista and put xp on it. So here is my question, where did you guys found thoose winxp drivers. If you could help me with that I would be so happy.
THanks for reading, and sorry for kinda bumping/changing the topic here m8’s
If you go to the wireless subformum of network-internet, you will find
a couple of stickies at the beginning that will tell how to report
what wireless card/chip you have. Read those and report the PCI or USB
IDs for it. From that information, we can help you get started.
I have the exact same problem with my 16 month old presario F560EM (UK), no wireless, can’t detect the Broadcom thingy in the device manager etc etc blah blah. I’ve done all the things that HP recommends, updated BIOS etc but no change. HP are totally denying that this problem exists - even though there are scores of people with the same issues and not just with this model. It’s immensely frustrating to be told that ‘yours must be a one off case’ (quoted to me in an email from a hp tech) and to clearly know there are others with exactly the same issues. Oh, and of course, mine is one of the models that isnt covered by the extended warranty.
Anyway, enough moaning.
I don’t know how far I’ll get, but anything’s worth a try, hopefully if we all get together we can get some help. I’ve emailed the consumer help TV programme Watchdog (UK) and i would be very grateful if all you could email them too - the more people the better chance we have at at least getting HP to add our models to the list of extended warrantees!

Have you looked at the stickies in the Wireless Forum, determined what
model of Broadcom thingy you have, posted that info there, and gotten
the help of the experts there, who include one of the developers for
the b43 driver?
Thanks for you reply m8, but here is where the problem can be solved if thoose people reply on our posts.
Beause they do have the winxp drivers i need so badly.
TO answer gina, It is the broadcom card it self. I strongly reconment to replace it with a 'real 'card.
I found out on my laptop that when i tried to use a wireless usb adapter all my problems went away. So i simply pulled out this crappy broadcom card and replaced it with a lynkis ( or sitecom will do as fine )
For all you out there, broadcom brand sucks arse.
ps, i hope some 1 do can help me with winxp drivers that would be so awsome, i know my prob is still now but i do still dislike windows vista.

I’ll take your crappy Broadcom card. They are really good cards
despite their utter and complete refusal to cooperate with open-source
activities.
