Wireless Driver and Video Driver

Hi There!!!

I am very new to Linux. At first my friends recommend to use Ubuntu and last I choose openSUSE (Downloaded and Installed openSUSE with GNOME only). After installation of openSUSE, I found that my wireless driver is missing and later also found that some Graphic Card problems too.

My system is DELL Latitude E6410 and according to openSUSE forum, I run /sbin/lspci –nnk and the results are as follows.

According to the forum, they advise to install or download using zipper command. But my problem is that I don’t have (actually can’t accessible wired internet connection because I am using shared Internet Connection). What I am meaning to say is that I can’t get online and use zypper commands.
So, I would like to know is there any way to install wireless driver offline? I will download using Windows 7 and install later on openSUSE. Is that even possible?

Another problem with my graphic card is when I start the openSUSE system, I can’t see all things. The only thing I am seeing is Black and White and some colors only. But after Log Out, all goes to normal. And also I notice that when I reach the bottom or end of documents or in GNOME Terminal the screen flicker a lot. Is that a Graphic Card Driver problem?

Since I am very new to Linux and openSUSE please guide me in simplest way to above two problems. After I can go online I will start learning openSUSE  .

Thanks A Lot….

It is usually unproductive to open a thread for more than one problem. I will
help you with the wireless one, but you should open a new thread about the
graphics problem. You also failed to indicate which version of openSUSE you are
using. In that new thread, you should also indicate that you have an NVIDIA
Corporation GT218 graphics adapter. From the description, the nouveau driver is
not working for that device.

Your wireless card uses the brcmsmac driver. You need to open a terminal and
issue the ‘dmesg’ command. If that indicates a problem with missing firmware,
you will need to install the kernel-firmware package. It should be on the DVD,
which I think you must have used to install. You can use YaST to see if it is
available.

Hi…

Thanks for your suggestion. About openSUSE version, I am using latest which is openSUSE 12.2 GENOME.
Since Internet connection are very bad in our country, I was unable to download full DVD, and instead I downloaded GENOME only using USB thumb drive. My DVD drive is no good and I can’t find replacement in our country. So, can you please guide me how to install from USB thumb drive. Also it is nearly impossible to download full DVD (It took me 3 whole days to download GENOME only which is 600MB).

Thanks and Best Regards

With network problems, did you check the Gnome Live CD to be certain that it
downloaded correctly? I do not use Gnome, but I think there is an option in the
initial boot menu to check the disk.

When you boot the USB drive as a Live system, does the wireless work? If it does
not work there, then it is not likely to work with the full system.
