I’m running SUSE 11.3 on a Dell Inspiron 1501 with a Broadcom BCM4311. I finally got the wireless working earlier with some help from caf4926 and now the card keeps disappearing almost like someone went into the BIOS and disabled it.
Thank
Dan

Do you mean it stops working? Or the wireless icon disappears.
I mean it’s gone. I can’t scan for wireless networks in network manager and when I go into network settings in Yast the card is not listed.
Is the wireless light ON ?
It’s on now but it goes off when it’s not working.
I know these intermittent problems are the hardest to fix. I’m just hopping someone might have an idea of what’s going on.
Do you have windows on this machine too?
And is it working OK there? If this is a hardware issue, windows will likely have problems too.
Try creating a new user account in Linux, don’t delete the current one, we just want to create a new account to test with. You must disable auto-login (which is a good idea anyway)
Then login with the new user and create a wireless connection. Does it do the same?
I’m thinking it’s probably a hardware problem. I was just hopping I was wrong and someone that had the same problem would have a fix.
