I just activated the wireless connection on an HP Elite e9220f PC, with a AR928X Wireless Network Adapter. The PC used to be on a wired ethernet connection but was moved too far from the router and setting up cables would be a nightmare. All went smoothly and OpenSUSE 11.2 recognized the adapter right away with driver ath9k. I consequently set up the ethernet connection to be activated “On cable connection”.
The problem now is that the internet works only for the Chrome browser and pinging from the terminal. It does not work for Firefox and Yast. Adding repositories, online updates and whatnot are not possible anymore. Anybody has an idea what’s going on and how to fix this?
Managed to connect the PC to an Ethernet connection. deleted the wireless setup but the problems remain. The only browser that is working is Chrome, with ping from konsole successful. what could have went wrong? I did not delete any files between the switch from Ethernet to wireless.
Pretty sure your browsers should work with the adapter unless you set the browser preferences for the other browsers to use wired connection instead of any connection. Good pings from Konsole indicates wireless is working to me, so I’d look at the browser preferences.
BTW, why can’t you use YaST for updates? Have you tried
zypper refresh
from a terminal? That should connect and only refresh your repositories, and IMO prove that the wireless is working and Firefox has a preference incorrectly set.
I managed to fix the repository problem for the Ethernet connection.
The hostname/DNS info was still set to the other network’s config. I blanked the fields (new connection is home one) and made sure the hostname could be changed by DHCP. Now the repositories are all added and I even did an online update.
