I guess the title about says it all.
The network manager say that there is a connection and the lights on the card are on, but whenever I tried to load a web page or install a package through Yast I get a no connection error.
I can reboot the computer and everything works for a few minutes then quits.
At first I thought it might be the router, but my computer works normally, (problem is with my daughter’s)
I’m wondering if her wireless card is going bad.
Her machine is running openSUSE 11.2 with KDE 4.3

Yes, The connection works briefly after startup, then is gone. However, Network manager shows that there is a working connection.
I’m currently trying to install vlc media player for her. As soon as the connection give out I’ll post the requested info from ‘dmesg’
I’m using a Broadcom pcmcia card. I don’t remember the exact model number but it uses the b43 firmware. (when connection stalls I’ll pop the card out and look if you need that info)
Here is my ‘dmesg’ output. Hope there is some useful info in there. It’s all greek to me. Also, today Network manager shows no connection and attempt to reconnect fail, but both lights on the card are on showing that it has power and is receiving a signal.

If your’re using NetworkManager it’s may even better to see the /var/log/NetworkManager log.

When your internet connection is down, try ifconfig to verify if the network card is still active and has a ip address, if you have an ip address try to ping the gateway to verify the connection between the network adapter and the router.If you receive icmp from the router it may be a problem at your ISP, witch connection does your isp use? static IP, pppoe, dynamic ip?? Try also to view the router log.

thanks for the replies. My internet connection is down due to a power outage. I will post the network manager logs as soon as I can.

For now everything seems to be working properly. I can’t seem to get the connection to drop this evening. Perhaps the problem was with my ISP and was fixed while things were down this morning.
If it happens again I suppose I will have to start a new thread at a later date.
