Wireless Card not connected

My laptop’s wireless card is being read but it says it is not connected. when i open yast network settings it says …BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (Not Connected)… I also press the switch on my laptop to turn the card on and off and the light never comes on. I am just wondering how to connect the card so i can connect to a wireless signal. Hope that was enough info.

Try below command to scan and connect to wireless network

#iwlist wlan0 scanning
#iwconfig wlan0 essid “ssid of ap”

Do you have the firmware installed?
If not make sure you have bcm43xx-fwcutter installed (should be) and type as root:
install_bcm43xx_firmware

Then try again.
