Wireless can not connect RT8180

I have a new install, have tried Linux briefly in the past but have always given up due to one issue…wireless.

This is the farthest I have ever been being that my machine definitly knows my adapter is there and that it does see the network.

But I am not connected to the network.

As directed in the sticky here is my results.

This is an open netwrk as i figured that initially would be the easiest way to get the lap top going.

Thank you for any help you can give because I am very very new at linux, would love to get into it and see more but if i can’t get wireless going on the laptop with it then there is no point.

P.S. I forgot to mention this is Suse 11.0

Hmmm, never mind…

I just played with a lot of settings and did a reboot and suddenly my network option was there to choose.

I can’t explain to anyone else how I got there, sorry…I have no idea how I did myself but it is now working perfectly.

Now on to test other stuff

In general, if your wireless interface can scan, you should be able to connect.

Are you planning to use the traditional ifup method or NetworkManager to control
the network devices? I suggest the latter, which should be the default.

You should click on the NetworkManager applet in the lower-right hand corner of
the screen with KDE or the upper-right corner in Gnome. You then click on the
“Add New Connection” button and add your network. As you are not using
encryption, it will be easy. Although the “Connect and Save” button is active
from the first screen, keep pushing the “Next” button as long as it is active.
In particular, check the “Autoconnect” button on the last screen. Once you hit
the Connect, the network should come up.

Sorry, didn’t mean to ignore your post. I didnt see yours when i responded to mine. Wasn’t slighting you there

I tried doing the add connection earlier and it was not giving me any options. I “think” what made it work was going through network device and chosing my card and giving the network name through there but i really have no idea exactly what I did that workied lol
