First of all, wireless questions get much better attention in the wireless
subforum. Go there, read the stickies, and provide the info needed. We don’t
know what Broadcon interface is in an HP 6715b.

open a terminal and go su, then type

hwinfo

or

lspci

you can paste the relevant part here

At first…
Open a Konsole/Terminal and tip in:

su (enter)
your root password (enter)
lspci (enter)

Copy the list in this post…it is needed to finde out what kind of chip is on your wirelesscard;)

ups…answer in same time…

Thanks.

Now we have what we need.

You need to install the firmware. Open a terminal and enter the following command:

sudo /usr/sbin/bcm43xx_install_firmware

That command will download the necessary files, extract the firmware from them,
and place the firmware files in the proper directories.

Once that is done, reboot and enter the command

sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan

At this point you should see your AP in the scan. If so, use the NetworkManager
applet (in the lower right-hand corner for KDE, upper right for Gnome), add a
new connection, and configure your encryption, etc.

If your AP does not show up in the iwlist output, run the command ‘dmesg | grep
b43’ and post that output.

If your wired line is plugged in, NM will always choose it.

It gives me an error;

linux-wgfr:/home/maxiji # sudo /usr/sbin/bcm43xx_install_firmware
sudo: /usr/sbin/bcm43xx_install_firmware: command not found

try su to root in a console then run

/usr/sbin/bcm43xx_install_firmware

Andy

Okey, I got it now.
But when I add my network, and connect, the icon is changing to the “working icon” a few sec, and so the “offline icon” Nothing more happens.

And what “type” is my network password?
Its a 5digit, with both numbers, and alphabetical (not sure how its spelled in English)

Dunno, could be wep/wpa/wpa2/wpa-psk/wpa-tkip/wpa-aes. You need to check what your router/modem says it’s set for

Andy

I tried them all, but it still wont connect ;S

The icon (networkmanager) change to the “working icon” a few sec.
But so the “offline icon” appear.

Ideas?

could be anything,check:

1 ) firewall is set to external on device
2 ) ipv6 is disabled
3 ) try a different channel on the router/modem

Andy

Sorry to ask, but i cant figure out how to do that…
I googled, but i didnt find any.

So, could you explain how to do that?

the first two are done via YaST-network devices-network settings & the last must be done on the actual router/modem itself, you probably need a hard-wired connection for that

Andy

Do not double post. As you can see, it creates significant confusion and double effort.
I will move this thread to join the other.

Get the password out at your router/accesspoint…do it on the same way like your done the first configuration on the router…
when your wireless connection is free (without password) test the connection…
If it works, its the password, maybe the kind of key is not supported…(WEP, WPA2, MIMO)…
Choose a new key…use WEP and use a new password…when you connect with the networkmannager use exactlly the key and password of the router, which you have created…
Taste this way;)

I would use WEP-128bit and a hexadecimal password…its the best way…for the support of PDA/Mobilephones (Simbian OS, Linux-mobile, Win(blows)-mobile too!

Good luck! And ask if you have problems…
