Wireless a no go.

Hello all!

I have been having a mess of problems with my wireless. Hopefully someone will be able to help me.

I have a Linksys WMP54G ver4.1. I have it installed, and hardware seems to be working correctly. But I can’t get any connectivity.

I can detect my network and others around me.

I have also obtained linux firmware from RaLink, the chipset manufacture, and I have placed them into the ‘/lib/firmware’ folder. I’m at a lose.

Which openSUSE version?

Kernel version?

I’m not sure on the exact kernel version, but I’m running suse 10.3.

Kernel version is 2.6.22.5.31

When I open knetworkmanager, I get about 5 networks to choose from. I click mine, it sits for a few mins, then says it is unable to connect and to verify some settings. I re-enter my network key, it sits, then says can’t establish connection.

The rt61pci-driver in 2.6.22 is not reliable.

Webpin

  • deinstall “rt2x00-kmp-Flavor” (default, bigsmp, use “uname -r” to find out)

  • install compat-wireless-kmp-Flavor matching your kernel version and architecture (i586 or x86_64, use “cat /etc/SuSE-release” to find out)

  • run

su

password

modprobe -rv rt61pci

modprobe -v rt61pci

I’ve modprobe’d the rt61 and then tried both the default and bigsmp without any luck. I’m going to try the xen next. What is the difference in these installs?

I get the same thing with the ones above, it sees 6 different networks, but I unable to connect to anything.
