Wine loses focus

Hello,

I’m using wine to run the windows version of “astrolog 7.8”. ( https://astrolog.org/astrolog/astfile.htm ). But since the second to last wine update there are massive problems. I was waiting since the last update to see if it will be solved, but it isn’t:

I start with:
wine .wine/drive_c/Astrolog78/Astrolog.exe

Then I get the following messages:

And for the instance the program runs without difficulties.
But when I switch focus to other programs, e.g. firefox, and work a bit there, I can’t get the focus back to Astrolog. Its window is visible, though it doesn’t take any input anymore (mouse clicks or short keys). It’s hanging. At the same time one console message is repeated over and over again:

0024:err:msg:process_hardware_message unknown message type 9

…while it consumes lots of CPU power simultaniously.

The only solution is to close the Astrolog window. Then a pup-up appears with message that the program is not responding, with the options “Termitate” and “Wait longer”. The only way is to terminate.

It looks like hardware issue, but my hardware hasn’t changed. THe same problem appears on my PC as well as on my Laptop. Does anybody have an idea what I can do? Thanks in advance.

Actual version is 11.13-1.2

Yes, it works initially, but it hangs after switching the focus to somewhere else after some time.

Hi, not on the linux build? Why not download the source and compile locally, you need to install gcc-c++, then can just run make to build…

Pure command-line use is no option, because I need to make life changes.
That’s the reason why I use the windows version. The Linux version is not very convenient to those regards

What desktop environment in use?

It is quite easy to create an app starter for any application including a wine app. So you don’t need to use a terminal if you don’t want.

Astrolog is indeed installed by hand. Not by zypper.

I use KDE 20260428-2.2

It all worked very well for years. Only after that one wine update the problem occured

And I usually start Astrolog through wine with a button on the panel. Only for watching the console messages I started it with command line

I’m not a plasma user, are you running X11 or Wayland?

This sounds like some graphics issue.
Can you post the output of inxi -GSazand zypper se -si nvidia. You are propably missing the 32bit graphic drivers.

Looking at the inxi output, your setup has lost the plot as it shows nothing using the DVI-D-1 monitor, it’s using the modesetting driver…

The Intel GPU is running as a display controller, primary graphics is the nvidia card which show DVI-D-I off.

It happened on two Tumbleweed machines simultaniously, and only by using zypper refresh and zypper dup on a daily basis. Something must have gone wrong there.

What can I do?

Whilst the following is running Leap 16.0, it’s similar hardware, Intel GPU switches to a Display controller.

Do i need to re-install the Nvidia drivers? Can I do this while the whole system is running on the old drivers?
