I wonder why you ask the questions and waste everyone’s time if you do not even read the answers.
to @arvidjaar …
This person always claims “I’m a noob”.

A noob for sixteen years?
It’s about laziness (or lack of comprehension)
I think you’re mistaking this person for someone else.
Thanks to all for your suggestions. Feel free to close this topic.
Using XFCE.
Who exactly is “This person”? I am not sure if you are referring to me. To the best of my memory I have never used the word “noob” nor claimed to be one. Of course “lack of comprehension” does apply to me at times. It’s why I ask questions. It would be difficult for me to be a “noob” having used computers since the mid seventies (that would be the last century). Thanks for the assistance anyway.
Honestly I’ve always used Fedora Media Writer. It’s on flatpak and most distro repos.
It lets you select your own iso and it hasn’t let me down yet with any distro.
As @aggie already suggested, @myswtest is indeed wrong here. He means another person and not you.
I hope @myswtest will confirm this.
Balena Etcher is pretty much the standard application for creating bootable usb sticks.
For optical discs Imgburn is the most robust I’ve seen and it runs under Wine from a quick test.
Since I’m seeing a lot of people recommending Ventoy:
Ventoy seems to build binary blobs when used to install an operating system, see the following issue:
From what I understand (the linked issue-thread derailed), the developer never officially explained, what these blobs are about and why they are built during installation.
While I don’t want to be accusing, it definitely has discouraged me from using Ventoy since I do not find it trustworthy and I don’t feel good using it anymore since knowing about this.
See here for ventoy:
https://en.opensuse.org/Create_installation_USB_stick#Ventoy
I know that it is not recommended. I just thought, that some people here might like to know that there are other issues with Ventoy, and they might reconsider the trust they put into this tool. xz-utils left a bad taste in many’s mouth, and general awareness isn’t a bad thing (especially since some wrote, that they used Ventoy without problems even when installing openSUSE).
@ionmich why not just use the Windows tool for creating a Windows USB device? At least you can (if needed) use secure boot?
That’s exactly what I did. And I did get the Windows 10 downloaded free from the Microsoft site running on a desktop. But after several botched attempts I concluded that it works best in a single drive box with no other OS to be seen. And it’s much slower than my legal Win 10 on my old notebook. Experiment over. Thanks for the advice.
Hi
Well I have spent 2 days jigging around with opensuse on a ventoy install media, now I know better - thanks, used W10 AnyBurn and got an almost successful install.
Ventoy works well with debian derivatives I believe.
dd is great for early Raspberry Pi OS work.
So horses for courses.
