Windows not showing up in GRUB

I just installed OpenSuSE 11 and after it was done installing and i rebooted, Windows doesn’t show up on the boot screen I only get the default OpenSuSE and Fail Safe options.

All i know is that vista is on sda3 when i partitioned my drive.
Here is my menu.lst entry for windows:

Give us the output of the command fdisk -l {L lower case}
You should run the command as root

You’re right, Vista is on your sda3. You should change your

chainloader (hd0,0)+1

as given above to

chainloader (hd0,2)+1

Although, you do have a strange config there. I’d never have guessed that Vista can actually boot off a non-first partition with a plain vanilla stanza like yours. Do post back if there are more problems.

Okay now i can get into windows, but when it boots up it acts like its installing an update and says: “(Stage 3 of 3) Configuring Updates: 0%” then says “Shutting Down…” and restarts my computer. :\

Edit the Grub Menu to add Windows entries.

Sorry just realized I am running Lubuntu, not Open Susie… not sure if you can still help but here is my Boot info.

Thank-you in advance for trying or helping.

run

sudo update-grub

check too you have os-prober installed

Still nothing

I don’t know why update-grub didn’t find it. But you can try to add the following in /etc/grub.d/40_custom:

menuentry "Windows Vista" {
    set root=(hd0,1)
    chainloader +1
}

Then run update-grub again:

sudo update-grub
  • You should edit the file /etc/grub.d/40_custom as root (using sudo) as well.
