Windows Media Plugin for Firefox

Hello guys

I am from Costa Rica, but now I am living in France, and I really want to watch TV from CR in this site

Grupo ICE en Vivo!

but the problem is I need a plugin for Windows Media Player. I found that

Using the Windows Media Player plugin with Firefox

I install gnome-mplayer and gecko-mediaplayer, and then it’s impossible open firefox, because it starts and holds a few seconds and closes again.

I really don’t know how to do, and really I’ll appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance!

Happy Holidays

You need gecko-mediaplayer from RedDwarf
Add this repo
Index of /repositories/home:/RedDwarf/openSUSE_11.2

This assumes you are 11.2

Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums

Thanks for your very clear response. Really works!

Just a little inconvenient is that the video doesn’t have any sound. I have to install another thing or it’s a problem of configuration.

I really appreciate your help, thanks again.

Right click on the playing screen - show controls
Unmute the sound

Not work, I put in the max volume and there is not sound and the slider return to mute automatically

It works for me
Sorry, not sure what you should try

You could try the vlc mozilla plugin from Packman repo
But you would need to remove gecko to try it

I am making all the tutorial again but I can’t see this image ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing due to the page is blocked by my proxy. you could repost in another server please.

try this

I made all the tutorial again and installed the vlc-mozillaplugin and nothing.

I want to give up with this but I really want to watch this TV channel. :’(

I suspect that gecko is you best bet
You may just need to fiddle with your sound settings

But .wmv stuff is not easy. Microsoft doesn’t want it to be! They hope you’ll switch to windows. Vendor lock in, I hate it.

Yes I know Microsoft is a really %$#@#@$

Well, I going to try some configuration of the sound, but i really don’t know how to start.

Sorry I am really newbie in this stuff. There is some options with alsa, esd, oss, etc… What is the best??

Alsa is what you want

Am I correct thinking you use Gnome?
I don’t so I’m a little fuzzy with it.

Is sound OK generally?

Yes the sound works pretty, Amarok, Skype, etc

I am using Suse 11.2 with KDE 4.3

I tried this, maybe here we can find the problem

do you have ffmpeg installed

Not, but I installed it and still without sound…

pastebin - collaborative debugging tool

I think it’s rather difficult for me to recommend much more. By all accounts you should be OK. But .wmv is very hit and miss

I opened the stream with vlc and this appears,

Pas de décodeur approprié pour le format:
VLC ne supporte probablement pas le format audio ou vidéo « wmas ». Malheureusement il n’y a rien à faire.

WMAS? Where I can find this codec?

Maybe this helps for found de missing codec
