Windows has vivid colours but linux?

I have dual boot machine which has windows vista and openSUSE 11.2. When I use linux I don’ t see vivid colours as windows has. Even in same applications. I think I properly installed drivers because I see big Nvidia logo at startup and I can see Nvidia Control Panel.
Do I have a problem or is this a general behaviour of linux or openSUSE.

This is very subjective -
Can you be more specific?

To me, the look and feel of SUSE is far better than Windows -

I mean linux seems pale while windows has vivid colours. In my machine this is obvious, not objective.

Then you need to change some themes and colours.

Like caf mentioned, this is very subjective, and vague as well. Maybe the desktop colours are a little bland for your taste y default, but you can customise the look and feel of KDE and Gnome eye-candy.

You’d have to be more specific in order to get better feedback and suggestions on this.

FWIW, I have a desktop machine with M$ Vista on it at home, and I dislike the look and colours by comparison to openSUSE. The performance of that OS does not nearly match that of openSUSE either.

I think it is probably a result of the programs and the settings you are using. I have run Windows and openSUSE side by side on the same machine for five years now and Windows looks crude and garish alongside Linux, even more so since the arrival of KDE4.

This might be result of my addiction to windows. How can I change colour settings? I may change something.

Which desktop are you using?

I use KDE 4.3

Colourschemes or Plasma-themes will most likely not change the effect described here.

@eranio: try using the NVidia-settings (as user!) to make the colours appear more powerful - the most common settings can be found in “X Server Color Correction”. I also recommend playing with the “Digital Vibrance” which can be found in the “CRT-0”-settings.

i’m using w7 with aero…it is very beautiful (even more than opensuse) at the beginning, but i just chose other color schemes, icons, desktop themes, a dock and now opensuse is kicking aero away

i have an ati integrated graphic card and got the driver for it from the ati repo, but didn’t changed any settings, just put the system to use it prior the open drivers that came with opensuse

i too have compiz/beryl installed for the composite stuff and all the transparency effects are on

maybe if try what i say you can set an awesome desktop (with some criativity)

hope i helped

Windows has nothing like Linux in desktop effects. Maybe you need to see an ophthalmologistrotfl!
