WINDOWS.DOC

For the first time I have been sent documents XXX.DOC. These do not translate and the error message tells me to install iconv/mbstring or lib/utf8.class. Neither of these seem to exist.

Installed is 11.2 which should be up to date. ??? :shame:

what are you talking about…an email attachment?

you should not need to install anything to see a doc file! openSUSE 11.2
comes with OpenOffice and is ready to open it for you

depending on your email client you will probably need to save the
attachment to a spot on your hard drive, then navigate to there (say
with Konqueror, Nautilus, or Dolphin) then right click on the .DOC file
and pick from the popup “Open with” and then pick OpenOffice Writer…

but, my experience is that most xxx.doc sent over the internet are just
porn…so, do you know who it came from?
