Hi all, this is not actually a problem (yet!). I have ordered a new Radeon graphics card and just cannot wait to talk about it!
I has the Polaris 12 chipset (so not cutting edge and hopefully quite usable by now). I want to install open source drivers when I get it. I am using the Nouveau driver now and struggled trying to install Nvidia drivers for my current card before learning it is not supported in Leap 15.3 (well the card is over 10 years old, was not mainstream when I bought it and has often been a bit problematic, so i can’t really complain…). So when I do start installing drivers for my new card, am I correct in thinking the Nouveau driver won’t interfere because it is not related to the new drivers? It would be easier if I could work from my current GUI/Desktop.
Thanks
Hi
You will be fine it will switch to the amdgpu kernel driver and sort out the new hardware.
I have a RX550 (Polaris 12) running here on Tumbleweed alongside a newer Nvidia card…
Thanks Malcom, I will get on with it as soon as I can!
Drivers from AMD are also available (for OpenCL).
