Will not authenticate after screen saver lock out

I’ve just installed 11.1 and so far things seem to work OK. When I left the machine the screen saver kicked in and wouldn’t let meback on with my password I chose during installation (and the only password I chose!)
Re-booting the machine sorted the problem…until next time!
I have now disabled the lock out for the screen saver so things ought to work now, but why did it do this?

New with openSuse!

Did it report ‘Authentication Failed’?

Yes, it did. And the window sort shook slightly for half a second or so…as if some activity was going on.

Cap locks on?

You used the same password for user and root? Is that what you were saying in ‘Only Password’?

When in the running desktop, can you start Yast OK
I’m kind of wondering too, why 11.1?

Dude - That’s a no brainer!

Sorry about the delay in my answer…beyond my control!
No, I just tried to start yast and it wouldn’t let me on with my only password.
As I didn’t ‘oversee’ the installation, could it be that I was asked at some point for a admin password and when I never entered one it sort of continued with a ‘default’ one? Or none at all?

There should have been a check box that said something to the effect “create a different root password” if checked it would then ask for the root.

Be default the root will be the same as the first user. I suspect that you may have entered the password incorrectly at first ie cap locks were on or something. If you have auto-login set (ie you are not asked for the user password at boot) you might not notice that you are not using the password you actually entered during install.

Oh deary me!!
You are so right! I tried to start yast with caps on and it let me in straight away! There is the tiniest of LEDs on my laptop telling me the caps are on, so easy to miss!
Cheers for that! Teaches me to be a bit more observant in the future. :embarrassed:

I guess you are forgiven. It’s early days for you

Now that you know you can correct it in Yast.
