Will Leap 16 be (also) immutable?

I like the concept of snapshots and rollbacks. It is said that Leap 16, which is in pre-alpha currently, will have both ways, immutable and “classic” installation.

However, the pre-alpha trial install media didn’t come with immutable option. Furthermore, it is said that immutable exists already earlier, but I couldn’t find this option with e.g. Leap 15.6.*)

What are the current plans on this topic? Most recent news about this is from early 2024 - is this information still valid?

Thanks for clarification.

*) I understand that switching from non-immutable to immutable is not recommended. As I need to replace an outdated CentOS 7 server, I hoped that I could start with Leap 15 immutable and to upgrade the installation later to Leap 16 for long-term usage. Wrong perception?

Leap Micro.

Like SLES, SLED is based on openSUSE Tumbleweed and share a common codebase with openSUSE Leap.

Immutable means a read-only root filesystem. SUSE distribute new unstable features as technology preview. Technology preview means not enough bug free for production server or everyday usage. SUSE let you try out read-only root filesystems already for several years. See SLES or SLED administration guide, chapter " 13 Transactional updates":

Choose an other linux distribution for production stable read-only root filesystems: SUSE Linux (Enterprise) Micro or openSUSE Leap Micro.
