Will 11.2 be updateable to 11.3 from internet?

Hi all,

Will 11.2 be updateable through yast to 11.3?

I have to get this workstation out onto shop floor, back into service, wondering if I put 11.2 in now then update to 11.3 while in service. It has 10.3 in it now.

Thanks

Heeter

I always find trying an upgrade can be hit and miss. Sometimes it works sometimes it may not work.

Personally, I find if I decided to try just an upgrade that I had better luck if the system had been running pretty plain from the distro install. By that I mean it didn’t have the factory KDE4 updates on it, or anything that could have caused some resolution problems. ( this may not be the same issue as it was back in the early KDE4 days when updates were fast and quick to KDE4 and the QT framework ).

Either way I would want a live CD handy in case it went wrong and you needed to do an install on the system.

If you keep your home directory on a separate partition I don’t worry about it as much on a standard desktop computer. Because if something went wrong in the upgrade. I can just wipe out the root partition and reinstall to it.

If you install 11.3 RC2 today, then do a “sudo zypper dup” on it, you will have
11.3. That I know works. Of course, if you wait 2 days, then you can install
11.3 directly.

Well, I wouldn’t mind waiting for 2 days, but this workstation needs to be back in service. I was just thinking that I could upgrade while in service.

I think that I might just do that RC2 sudo zypper dub instead, great idea!!

11.2 -> 11.3 via the internet is possible and supported.

However if you are going to download a new iso anyway, you might as well go for 11.3 RC2 which will give you a much better approximation of 11.3 than 11.2 can.

What do you mean by this? Isn’t an upgrade from 11.2 -> 11.3 the same either way?
