Wifi Works, but see my network. :|

Ok… I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 running on the BCM43xx firmware. Works fine. I have a rather odd problem though. I can only see open networks. :expressionless: My own network doesn’t show up, even though I’m 2 feet away from the router. Instead the linksys two apartments over shows up, because it’s unprotected. Any advice? I’m a linux noob… so… bare with me.

Is your SSID hidden? What does the command ‘/usr/sbin/iwlist scan’ show?

Thanks for quick reply. No, my SSID is broadcasting, should be BRANN138. Here’s the clip from iwscan.

If you run the command 5 or 6 times, does your AP show up? If not, tell us more
about your AP.

Larry

Doing some updates now. I followed another post I found on here that was extactly like my own problem… So I’m installing knetwork and all the WAP updates. All in all, I’m getting about 400mb of updates. Thankfully I have a nice 15mb download off the pipe. I’ll try that and rerun the terminal commands and see what I come up with. Thank you for all your help.

As you can see, the network was found the second time, but then failed to repeat. The network i’m looking for is the BRANN138 one, which is on a Netgear Wireless Cable Modem / Router. Not my pick of the litter, but thats what TW issued out to connect to the net. The network has WPA encryption. Scans elsewhere in the system, i.e. kWiFiManager, shows no networks in the area.

All this time, I’m 2 feet from the router. :expressionless: Since I’m hardwired in by CAT5e.

Now… I’m lost. haha

oh… and I have every single update there is have.

As long as the ascan can see it at all, you should be able to tell YaST to use
NetworkManager, then use the applet to “Edit Connections” and “Add Connection”.
Enter your ESSID, and encryption details - DO NOT click on “Connect and Save”
until you have seen all the screens and Next is no longer active. It should
connect at that point.

Thanks Larry. Thanks to you I got this thing working.

Now to conquer the speed issue. It suddenly got OMG slow. :expressionless: lol But thats another topic and i think its been covered already.

Thanks again larry.
