Well, it turns out that even after a clean reinstall it still does the same. Again, WiFi works perfectly stable if I boot into another live USB distro with a bit of an older kernel. So that mean that something is broken in the kernel for this Wireless module. I just wish there was some more testing…this has been an issue for months as I said before already. So frustrating…I hope it will get fixed as I’ve never had WiFi issues with this laptop on Linux ever before. For years.
Something VERY interesting and weird I found as another user was having the same problem on the Linux Mint forum and he solved it by turning off the Bluetooth. I just did the same amd the WiFi is being just stable and fine. Though I wish I could use the Bluetooth too but I suppose I can at least turn kt off and on for now until I wait for the Kernel developers and the openSUSE team to eventually patch this. I just wanted to give a heads up of my finding if it may help anyone.
The only way to make that happen is via a bug report.
Ok, will look into it. Cheers ![]()
If you search the forum you will find some posts where people say that on some combined network/bluetooth-cards the bluetooth and network do not like each other.
So if that is true then it is probably a hardware issue (which will/can not be rectified by changes in the kernel)
If you think BT is interfering here, then consider switching your Wi-Fi band from 2.4GHz to the 5GHz band if viable.
So how do you explain that on an older Kernel version distribution the WiFi and Bluetooth chip both of them work perfectly fine with absolutely ZERO dropouts and then AS SOON AS you do the upgrade to a newer Kernel version the problem arises as if like magic? And then again, AS SOON AS you either downgrade or run another distro with an older Kernel version suddenly everything works just fine again.
Doesn’t sound like a hardware fault to me…it is obviously a software bug and it NEEDS to be rectified.
Also, I personally never had any issues with WiFi/Bluetooth combo, if anything one time the WiFi chip wouldn’t work out of the box and needed to install the drivers after an upgrade which needed to be done with a phone tethering via cable or something and then it would work, but never had any issues with any other machine I ran Linux on myself, even less than optimal hardware for Linux.
Unfortunately that Wireless module in that laptop only supports WiFi at 2.4GHz…it’s an old laptop alas…I hope maybe I can upgrade it to a newer WiFi/Bluetooth module that supports 5GHz, but who knows…will see.
Neither had I. I just wanted to point you to what some posts say …
So you will have to create a bug report to make that happen.
Ok fair enough.
Yes and I said I will look into it ![]()
