Hello,
I have OpenSUSE LEAP 15.0 KDE installed on my Lenovo T480. Since I’ve been spending more time with my desktop, I’ve been sloppy at maintaining my laptop. After some upgrades, I am noticing that wireless speed is unbearably slow. I’m talking about from ~10MB/s to 100kB/s.
It’s definitely not the hardware because it works perfectly fine on W10 side, and it worked perfectly fine some months ago, and it works fine at my work WPA2 Enterprise-PEAP wifi network.
I am not sure what to make of it and not even sure where to start. I did some reading, and I tried adding nameserver for /etc/rc.conf, tried creating and playing with /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf followed by mkinitrd. I am at a loss. Could someone help me get started on fixing this?
Thanks

Posting the output of ‘journalctl -b --grep wlan0’ might help. Replace wlan0 by your interface name.

A useful first steps to troubleshooting is to open a web browser to a remote site (recommend on the Internet).
Watch the bottom left of your web browser window, the “status bar” should display your progress by description.
You should be able to determine various things like…
Is it taking a long time to resolve the name?
Is your machine finding it hard to find the remote website?
Has your browser contacted the remote website and is now waiting for a response?
etc.

tsu2:
A useful first steps to troubleshooting is to open a web browser to a remote site (recommend on the Internet).
Watch the bottom left of your web browser window, the “status bar” should display your progress by description.
You should be able to determine various things like…
Is it taking a long time to resolve the name?
Is your machine finding it hard to find the remote website?
Has your browser contacted the remote website and is now waiting for a response?
etc.

Hello Tsu,
Using https://forums.opensuse.org/forum.php on firefox for an example. Two items that seem to be taking the longest are:
looking up static.opensuse.org
Performing tls handshake…
The kernel switches to lowest power available:
kernel: wlan0: Limiting TX power to 23 (23 - 0) dBm as advertised by 38:35:fb:16:96:55 (presumably the router). Try to change this.

I could not disable the power management, afterall, and I am not sure if it may actually fix the issue because I read somewhere that 23~33dBm is the max tx power anyways.
I also discovered that Yast/Network Settings will freeze if I try to open it while connected to this wifi network.

What about: iw dev wlan0 link

I was unable to resolved this, but while trying to fix it, I somehow broke bumblebee and bbswitch. As a response I fresh-installed/upgraded LEAP 15.1 and I no longer experience this problem.
That’s a pretty good work-around anyway.
