wide screen monitor

I have been running OpenSuse 11.0 virtualized in XP. I was not able to utilize my monitor (a typical modern laptop (Asus X71SL) with 1440x900 resolution) fully. The SAXX database did not know this resolution for a generic LCD monitor and recompiling kernel with VirtualBox extension did not work either with GUI interface (the X11 server would crash at startup and I am not so much a system expert that I can solve this!).

Anyway I like SuSE best of Linux’es (I have been using it since 10.0) and would like to give it (preferably 11.0 and not 11.1) a try on a dual boot with Windows. But before doing so I want to ensure that this monitor issue can be solved (using 1068*768 is an annoyance!).

Can anybody guide before I try this?

Installing the guest additions will usually give you more resolution options. You’ll need the kernel sources installed along with make and gcc in order to install the guest additions.

Also, have you tried the full screen option when you’re inside VB?
