I upgraded to LEAP 42 and discovered that Quanta+ is no longer in the distro. Why?
I tried installing the 13.2 RPM as well as he latest bz2 from Source Forge but it will not install because ( I’m assuming ) of all the missing dependencies that poped up when I tried installing it from the Source Forge bz2 archive. I do gobs of web development and was a heavy Quanta+ user/lover. I tried Bluefish, Seamonkey and a few others but don’t really care for them.
As I see that KDE has done no development on Quanta since 2008 I wish KDE would fix it so it is again a useable product!>:(
Anyone know of any workarounds?
The one click install doesn’t work; it defaults to an xml page, so I used http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_Leap_42.1/ in Yast. For some reason, Yast claims I installed it, but it doesn’t pull up in my app menu. I only get Bluefish as an html editor.
I never use one-click installs. In any case you can just install it as a single package from the web page I linked to.
You need to use a web browser that has YMP as a configured MIME type… Like Firefox distributed by openSUSE which is included in every openSUSE install. My guess is that you’re using some other web browser.
The alternative is what deano suggests… Don’t click on the “One-click Install,” click on the 64-bit package (because you’re running LEAP) to download the RPM package, then you can point Zypper or Yast at your package to install.
You can inspect the package contents to see if a menu item should have been installed, or you need to create one
rpm -ql *packagename *
TSU
I downloaded the rpm in a local directory, Yast sees it, so I install it. At least, I thought I did. When I attempt to pull up the app, leap knows nothing of quanta. When I pull up Yast again, I get the following:
An error occurred during repository initialization.
Error refreshing service Quanta (https://software.opensuse.org/package/kde3-quanta):
Parse error: repoindex.xml[278] Opening and ending tag mismatch: h3 line 278 and h4
History:
- repoindex.xml[123] Entity 'nbsp' not defined
- repoindex.xml[123] Entity 'nbsp' not defined
Upon inspection:
rpm -ql kde3-quanta-3.5.10-140.4.x86_64.rpm
package kde3-quanta-3.5.10-140.4.x86_64.rpm is not installed
But when I look in Yast, it claims that it’s installed. Please Help.
Remove the Quanta repo. If in doubt post the configured repos…
zypper lr -d
After you’ve removed the problematic repo, you can add it again using
sudo zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_Leap_42.2/ Quanta
then install with
sudo zypper in kde3-quanta
FWIW, I did the above (for openSUSE 42.2) with a dry-run for test purposes only…
linux-kgxs:/home/dean # zypper in --dry-run kde3-quanta

After you removed the offending repo, maybe run this afterwards…
zypper clean
BTW, in post #3 you mentioned you were using openSUSE 42.1, so you should use ‘http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_Leap_42.1/’ instead.
Are there services defined in /etc/zypp/services.d/?
ls - l /dev/zypper/services.d/
Check
zypper ls
If applicable remove with
sudo zypper rs Quanta
This is what happens when I try to multi-task. I’m having a mystery right now. I don’t see the Quanta Repo in Yast, but I do here:

My bad, that should have been /etc/zypp/services.d/
Anyway remove it by number
sudo zypper rs 1
There may be something wrong with the rpm. I still can’t find Quanta in Leap after install. If only I could find recently installed apps in leap - maybe it’s under a different name / category. Here is some konsole output:
/etc/zypp/services.d/
-bash: /etc/zypp/services.d/: Is a directory
