one of the things that make me not visiting this forum as often as I could is that the login procedure is unbelievable inconvenient
I go to forums.opensuse.org , klick login and get re directed
while this happens, on other forums I just need to type the password, if I need to type it, and am am in.
is there no way to make this login better, add username password to the welcome site, instead of redirecting?
When I click on the “login” item, I get the inlog page as I would expect. It is indeed from microfocus, but so what. Then my username and password are filled in by my password manager (thus it may be that I first have to unlock the password manager) and off it goes.
Do what is the problem? Is this not working in your case?
It is indeed, at times ,excruciatingly slow - the login can take anywhere from 10-20 seconds ta minute to several minutes and require multiple page refreshes because the microfocus page is often extremely slow to reply, on top of that it sometimes just boots you out of the forum for no reason.
This place really needs a bit of an update, vB4 is almost a decade old and 4.2.2 this place runs is quite old too, lacking a lot of the modern features that other forums have like more ajax.
this site does not need a re direct, login works faster, that’s better
optimal would be to have the user/login field already visible and with
defaults filled, than login would be instant
Hi
That’s because OBS is not part of the single sign on… Sign in once
and get to a plethora of sites or have to login to every single
openSUSE and Forum Sponsors sites (Some of us use more than just
openSUSE)…
At present that’s how it is and won’t change, maybe it will change in
the future…

This is indeed the 21st century and it is full of threads to web sites and the like.
That is why we have a centralized login functionality and do not use the facility of Vbulletin. On at least one occasion, when a security flaw in Vbulletin was found and user data could be read from Vbulletin sites, we were untouched by this.
Another feature of the central login is that once loged in, you are also loged in in e.g. the Bugzilla and Openfate sites (and more).
In any case, I doubt that openSUSE will change the present situation because you think it is old fashioned.
well, hcvv, this is a place for feedback, and I provided some. no need to become personal, OK
your reference to the centralized login and additional security is maybe a guess?, we had some issues in the past regardless the redirect to the novell/microfocus page.
but anyhow, that’s not the point, so please stay on topic.
obviously I am not the only one who finds this page a bit outdated, and who thinks that the login process is sometimes to slow and cumbersome
and I am pretty sure that this forum does not have all the members is could have because of it’s archaic look and feel and functionality.
anyway, it’s up to the forum owners to decide how attractive they will make this place
I just provided my feedback, so I think I am done in this thread
O agree with @Miuku that it could be a bit faster. But OTOH, I only login once or sometimes twice a day (do not forget to keep at least one window/tab with a forums page open, else you will be loged out).
I experienced about the same during login the last month or so. Sometimes a long time for the login page to come up. I then interrupted the loading and clicked reload. That resulted in immediate loading .
So there is definitely something strange every now and then.
Workaround when you see this: after entering credentials, click in the address bar and hit Enter. Please let know it this works for you, it might help to create a proper ticket for the heroes@opensuse.org .

What we do here is a standard authentication flow when using single-sign-
on solutions (which we do). This allows you to use the same username/
password across multiple SUSE sites (as well as SUSE’s parent company’s
sites).
That’s done to reduce the overall user management complexity across
multiple systems.

I see that there is a secondary issue, which is an unexpected delay -
that’s not a feature of the authentication flow - and that’s something
that others have suggested ways to have addressed. Just wanted to
acknowledge that issue.
