Why is GRUB2 still in beta?

Or is it?

As far as I’m aware, GRUB2 version number has contained “beta2”
ever since it replaced GRUB; currently it is 2.02~beta2-20.5.1. Does
this really mean it’s still in beta and, if so, will we be getting
beta3 or even a release candidate any time soon? :-p

I might be mistaken here.

My impression is that one of the opensuse team has made some substantial improvements to grub2, particularly to grub2-efi. But the grub2 maintainers have been slow to incorporate those into a released version.

When I do test installs of ubuntu or Debian, it looks as if they are using grub2 without those enhancements, and it shows.

If I’m correct, then thanks for the good work to the opensuse contributor.
