Why do you block Tor exit nodes?

I use Tor very much all the time, and you blocking exit nodes interferes with me submitting legitimate posts.

If I were to make an educated guess, it’s because they’re used to spam, harass and send virii and false information all the time.

Yes; Tor is a mixed bag, as is almost anything that can be used for
extreme good, in that it can also be used for evil. While the forums are
pretty open to any question, they are not open to spam, and those who send
spam often do so from Tor in order to avoid being blocked. Since we are
not as concerned about “free speech” as we are about providing a service,
it makes sense to block Tor exit nodes. Chances are that the regimes that
block free speech will probably allow access to these forums because,
well, we aren’t doing anything that radical in terms of politics.

Tor is great, both for people who deserve it and for scum who do not. How
one interprets “deserve” and “scum” is left up to the reader.

The truth is we don’t specifically target TOR exit nodes for blocking. When
we continually get spam from an IP or an IP range, we block that IP or range to
avoid future spam. If that happens to be a TOR node (which it often does),
then so be it. If you want TOR exit nodes to be unblocked, then you need to
do some worth to improve the TOR system so it’s not used by spammers so much.

You can change your Tior circuit until you find an unblocked node (simple to do, only requires a menu click).
You can also specify the country of the exit node, maybe more (more advanced settings).
