Who's dumb idea was it?

…to limit the amount of images in a post to 4?

It counts smileys as images, and is extremely annoying having to redo a post because you have smiled too much!

Is this a conspiracy against people showing emotions?

**** you Vulcans!

rotfl!::sarcastic:rotfl!

…and that’s all the emotion you get from me in this post!!

You have to know the tricks http://www.swerdna.net.au/forumpics/smiley/beer.gif

Or maybe it’s just a hint to grow up?

And grownups don’t have to smile or express lots of emotions? Is there some such universal rule against this that the cosmos imposes or is it human doctrine? I bet it’s the latter :stuck_out_tongue:

How about using “language” for that?

Ever noticed, that some of the greatest people in expressing emotions in written form never needed (or had) smilies?

No, experience.

Excessive use of smilies is found in kids or “mentally challenged” people (with a “prediction success rate” > 95%).

A picture can say a thousand words… or in this case, a smiley

No, experience.

Excessive use of smilies is found in kids or “mentally challenged” people (with a “prediction success rate” > 95%).

 :stuck_out_tongue:   (I wanted to put more but it didn’t allow)

Am I mentally challenged now? Oh wait, your “prediction success rate” just FAILED

Your experience is not a universal cosmological law, nor is how society dictates how one should behave or not wrt to emotions. Stop spewing bollocks

Then how about a technical aspect:

Posting console output without CODE-Tags is very often hard to read.

With large amounts of output it gets worse and the chances, that information gets garbled because of “false smilies”, are also increased.

This forces users to put their stuff into CODE-Tags.

Am I mentally challenged now?

I will give a polite answer by not answering that.

(And here no smiley is needed, think of the one which you would like to see.)

I can’t think of a smiley which I would like to see since there’s no way for me to catch your emotional mood at this time of writing, thus I can be very wrong when thinking about a smiley which matches or doesn’t matches your feelings. I can think about  or :stuck_out_tongue: but there’s no way for me to verify if you think or feel the same way. If you put a smiley next to your post, it has a better chance for others in catching your mood without writing long essays about how you feel the moment you posted

> How about using “language” for that?

Oh woe tis trouble I see when one breakest thou smiley faces
in rare occurrence. I bid thee adieu and takest thou limits
in thine divine province.

Well, it’s up to you if you want to put yourself into the 5 or the 95% group.

So much about “FAILED”.

The question you asked can be compared with standing in the middle of a crowded place with wide-spread legs holding up a sign “please kick me”.

To push this paradigm a little further, people of the “95%-group” wonder why their groin hurts after they awake from a coma.

put smiley here

Some of the cleverest people were also fond of inventing their own new means of expression - new words, new grammar, new punctuation.

Language isn’t a static construct, so past use is no means to judge present boundaries.

And when you’re dealing with multilingual forums, smileys can defuse ambiguous posts by giving a visual indication that something is meant humorously.

So :stuck_out_tongue:

hahaha, you’re really something, aren’t you? I bet you also think all are dumb and you’re the only smart around, judging from your signatures quotes, past and present ones

How am I putting myself into the “5%” by writing many smileys? Is that how you judge people and “classify” them? Tells very much what a person you are. And how are you going to find out if I’m “retarded” on an Internet forum? I could do all of this on purpose and make you think am I. This doesn’t say I am in reality nor is it any kind of proof

Seriously, stop posting easily refuted claims and judgments about people you don’t even know. Moreover, those judgment you put out have as their foundation of “facts” smileys which is really ridiculous… LOL, really LOL rotfl!

Anyways, I’m out. Have fun judging and classifying others by the amount of smileys they use rotfl!

Exactly.

And as we know: “monkey see, monkey do”.

So some of the dumbest people think they become clever by excessive (mis)use.

No, on the contrary, using it just “to prove me wrong” in such a childish way clearly puts you in the 95%, subcategory “grow up”.

Ditto.

Again you obviously forgot the two categories in the 95%-group.

I could do all of this on purpose and make you think am I. This doesn’t say I am in reality nor is it any kind of proof

Who tells you I am not doing this on purpose to see who is reacting so strongly and by that finding out who they are?

Now that’s interesting, especially regarding your own sentence a few lines above.

I bet you also think all are dumb and you’re the only smart around

You will loose that bet, but in contrast to that, YOU are judging a person directly, I “judge” a group with high probability of being correct.

Who is “Mr. prejudice” now?

Made up statistics to prove a point (95% of statistics are made up on the spot) indicate a challenged intellect. It also can indicate arrogance which is most likely a child’s trait. How do I know this? I did a exhaustive study with polls and graphs.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahhaahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Thanks for the great laugh, mate. Didn’t had one today. Much apreciated. “Retard belonging in the 5% corner” over and out

Nice one.

Was it a self study?

And to give you some “late satisfaction”.

My thoughts about this whole thread are:

P.S.

Thanks for playing along so nicely, I just won a bet with that.

Im out also, time to get my beer I won.

What did you win? A few billions? Eternal life? ability to travel to past and future? enlightenment? What? Or did you boost your bogus superiority complex?

Your whole claim about judging people by the amount of smileys they post is probably one of the most ridiculous claims I’ve seen in the past year. There is NOT A SINGLE STUDY OR STATISTIC that will tell you with 100% accuracy that each person who’s using an excessive amount of smileys is DIRECTLY a retard or a moron and should be put in those 5% corner. You really need to fix your mind and thinking process. By claiming such things, it really make you the one who should be put in the 5% corner

Further, the thing you’re practicing is not only superficial, but also intimidating, rude and illogical, all at once. First, you don’t know who you’re talking to on a forum, neither do you know the reasons why a person uses lots of smileys or not (one example: it could be a bad habit… does this makes him directly a retard? No, it doesn’t). Second, judging by how many smileys one uses is not a cold hard fact and proof that the person is a retard since you can neither prove nor disprove it. Look at what he writes (the content) and how he writes, not at how many smileys he uses or doesn’t. And even that isn’t 100% bulletproof to directly slap him a label of a “retard”. Third, you’re practicing human doctrine and labeling and we all know that such things are not desirable. By saying one acts like a child just because he uses more smileys more often than someone else, is neither proof nor a dismissal of him being a retard or a “childish person” and also is a doctrine since society dictates how a grown up person “should be” and how he “should act”, even though there’s no universal cosmological law about this. Besides, what may look like “grown up” in your society, could look very childish in another one and since you don’t know from where that person is and how his society or group views things, you can’t tell him he’s retard just because you say so. He may be classified as “retard” in your society but his society or group could very strongly disagree with that. Besides, there’s no reason to force your own views on someone else, especially when you can’t prove them and yes, it’s you who needs to prove them since you’re making the claims. Spinning words around “just to make you look good” even though you’re practicing labeling, rudeness, prejudice, doctrine, superiority and baseless accusation of a person being “retard” just for his amount of smiley usage is really the cherry on top, especially on a technical forum

Keep cool dude, I won my bet and my beer, so no need to play further.

P.S.

To use some new Language:

YHBT, YL, HAND.

LOL… he won a beer… That’s how much you won? Wow, that’s really A LOT. Seriously, I can haz one too?

Gives you a false sense of superiority, doesn’t it?
