dear community,
while the setup of lampp i am asked to switch to wiked - and leave the Networkmanager…
the traditional method with ifup is - at least since systemd the wicked.service.
so i need to switch from YaST/Networkmanager to “wicked”.
friends told me: NetworkManager is good for me - since i often use the wlan - in different areas
for all the others that are attached and connected to servers that have a fix(ed) IP Configuration wicked is good.
well - i want to stay with knetworkmanager - is this possible - while installing and configuring a lampp…?
How are you setting up lampp, and who asks you to switch to wicked?
the traditional method with ifup is - at least since systemd the wicked.service.
That’s unrelated to systemd.
SUSE replaced the traditional ifup with their own replacement (wicked) in 13.2, while systemd is in use since 12.1…
so i need to switch from YaST/Networkmanager to “wicked”.
Why?

Yes, if you want to connect to several wireless networks, NetworkManager is probably better suited for you.
Though wicked is actually quite similar to NetworkManager, and more dynamic than the traditional ifup (that’s why it got developed/introduced in the first place).
There is no desktop applet for it (yet) though.

Of course it is possible. I’m having a LAMPP setup with NetworkManager here.
Though it depends on your needs and your NetworkManager and apache configuration.
If you want to run a web server that’s reachable from the Internet, it’s probably not a good idea to have a wireless user connection that is only established when your user logs in…
Btw, knetworkmanager is a KDE3 application. You are likely using plasma-nm…
hello dear wolfi,
many thanks for the quick answer…
i took the following manual for a reference to install the lampp on a opensuse.
sorry - this is written in German language: http://mntechblog.de/artikelserie-webserver-lamp-unter-opensuse-installieren/
note; i do this on a OpenSuse Versiion 13.2 -
my steps are the following
first step: installaton of the Pakets
this went witout any issues
after the installation i went to Start/Rechner/YAST to the menu choose “HTTP-Server”
afterwards: the HTTP-Server-Wizard will be opened
this wizzard looks for the configuration of the Apache-Server.
we have the following;
the server will listen on the network-ports …
the firewall port needs to be opened
but this does not work for me…–
the system tells me that i currently run knetowkrmanager…
well i will re-read all your ideas and tipps in order to find a way to go ahead.
note; i will try to install a newer system of linux here on my machine - so that probably some other - newer conditions are that opens up new options.
