which one do you prefer/recommend?

which desktop do you prefer/recommend for a laptop:
openSUSE 12.1 with Gnome 3.2 or openSUSE 12.1 with KDE 4.7?

I prefer it with KDE. But I won’t make that a recommendation. A lot depends on how you will be using it. For some kinds of use, KDE will be better while for other, Gnome will be better.

If you have enough disk space, install both and see which you like better. It probably requires about 1G more of disk space to have both.

I have tried both those + XFCE and KDE3

Personally I will be using KDE4

I should have been a bit clearer about what I meant by “install both”.

If you plan on installing from a live CD, then install one. Then, when you have things settled down, bring up Yast and install the other desktop over the network.

If you plan on installing from the DVD, then you can install both at the initial install.

It really doesn’t matter; both will work fine on a laptop. You only need to think more carefully if you are using a touchscreen whether they support the particular functionality you want on a touchscreen.

It’s a personal choice. Some like GNOME, some like KDE. Try both and
see which one you like.
