Which kernel to use ?

I did a clean install on my laptop (HP dv2000) of 11.3 with LXDE desktop. I noticed that it was installed with kernel-default.

Later on, I installed kernel-desktop assuming it is optimized for desktop use (that’s what the description says).

To be honest i don’t see any difference. both work well enough for my needs.

So, do i need the desktop kernel or just stay with the default kernel that was originally installed ?

You aren’t obliged to use the added kernel, you can stay with the original if u like.

I don’t know what logic YaST uses to decide which kernel to use. Maybe some
systems do not work well with the default kernel, dunno.

The desktop kernel should “feel” faster, ie, should respond faster to your
input actions. Doesn’t mean it process data faster, rather the contrary.
For most people, desktop should be the one.

Great, thanks. I’d stay with the desktop kernel for now. I also upgraded to 11.4. I LOVE IT !!!
