Which Application(s) Will Handle PAR & RAR Files

Using SUSE 11.1.
Thank You

The one(s) that created them? Where did you find them?

A RAR file is a type of archive. Try ‘unrar’, or just double-click on it
and file-roller will likely help you out. PAR I have not seen before but
since you have the file I presume you know how to create it or at least
where it came from.

Good luck.

So roberto on another thread you was trying to delete those par files. Par is not rar. Rar is a compressed archive/file. I wrote on the other thread that it could be a partial file generated while downloading something. Have a look at the behaviour of Firefox’s download manager for example.

PARs are recovery files used to check RARs or let’s say, a CD comprised of 20 tracks. A PAR is generated prior to uploading using “QuickPar” which is (afaik) a windoz only program. Following the download of a RAR archive, or the CD, one would run the PARs to ensure the download equals the upload. If errors have occurred in the download, PARs will recover, and overwrite, the defective files making them equal to the upload (if you’ve downloaded enough PARs).
I’m still searching for a PAR application. I did find “XArchiver” which is used to extract RARs but, haven’t had a chance to check it out.

Regards,

Roberto

 Use ARK that installs with KDE in 11.1 to extract the rar files. Install QuickPar for windows under wine for the par files.

Did ARK but, was hoping to get totally away from windoze on this computer. No problem and thanks for all the suggestions,

Roberto
