I saw a few posts talking about issues with adapters based on the Realtek RTL8125B and I was thinking of purchasing the TP-Link TX201 PCIe adapter (chipset unknown to me), can anybody please confirm or deny the said issues or incompatibilities? Which adapter do you all recommend otherwise?
I would chose one where the vendor indicates Linux is supported.
On average older and more popular hardware has a better chance of working in Linux and what count is not the vendor but the chip they are using. The problem is that getting the information on which chip is on the card and which chip is supported well is not easy to find.
Thank you for the reply, all the adapters I evaluated offer Linux support, but they are also based on the Realtek chipset that I remember was the subject of a few posts reporting issues in various distros a few months back.
Are you aware if those issues persist? Thank you again.
I did a bit of searching and see what you mean. “Linux supported” is because TP-Link provides a driver but I find that a bad sign (if the code is good it should be end of in Linux) and that driver will not work for Tumbleweed.
I see a Intel 2.5GBase-T PCIe 3.1 network card for $26 on Amazon which I would prefer.
Can you please share a link for the intel card?
Just wondering, what did a search for it give you? Could not you find it?
Anyhow this is the one I saw.
This was one of those I’ve seen but I don’t know this intel chip so I was very hesitant, I’ve been burned before.
Asking for extra advice from someone who has a good knowledge about this is always helpful, I hope I wasn’t a nuisance, you’ve been a big help, thanks again oh Wise One
