Dear fellows,
as the subject says: why is the tree command gone from the distro? Even zypper se tree does not find that handy tool anymore…
Back in SuSE 9.3, it was provided by the “udev-053-15.4” package, but now…?
I’ve done a forum search, but even using the full path /usr/bin/tree as keyword, the forum yields such a massive amount of meaningless hits that it was impossible to sift through…

No problem finding where it is.
$ tree
The program ‘tree’ can be found in the following package:
- tree path: /usr/bin/tree, repository: zypp (repo-oss) ]
Try installing with: sudo zypper install tree
bash: tree: command not found

I just went throught yast and installed the package called tree.
You should be able to do the same. I’m using 11.1.

best way (imo) to search this forum is to use Google with their site
switch, like:
site:forums.opensuse.org “/usr/bin/tree”
returns your question and the two answers which exist as i type this
(such a search with just program tree would lead you to learning
you need to install it…but, with a LOT of false hits)
best way to find ‘tree’ (imo) is searching in YaST or at
http://software.opensuse.org/search
both of those ways find, and install ‘tree’ very quickly…
have fun…and, by the way (imo) openSUSE 11.1’s relationship to SuSE
9.3 is mostly in name and historical roots…(that is, when 9.3 was
released it was stable and dependable…but, 11.1? not so much…it
is more a beta on the way to Novell’s commercial offering SLED/S 12)
