Where to find how to for total newbies

I need to update my firefox and I got the download, but I have no clue how to open and run it. I can get to terminal, but that’s it. The current FF3.6 crashes extremely frequently, usually after I have opened up several MSN links for news. Running Suse 11.3

11.3 will soon be end of life, so consider a upgrade.
But of course you can still use the repositories for the current firefox
by adding the mozilla repository (yast -> repositories -> add repository
-> community repositories -> check the mozilla repository).
After you added it open yast software management search for firefox and
choose the version 9 from the version tab.

PC: oS 11.4 (dual boot 12.1) 64 bit | Intel Core i7-2600@3.40GHz | KDE
4.6.0 | GeForce GT 420 | 16GB Ram
Eee PC 1201n: oS 11.4 64 bit | Intel Atom 330@1.60GHz | KDE 4.7.4 |
nVidia ION | 3GB Ram

As has been said 11.3 is running to end of life

But you can update firefox. Open a terminal and use your mouse to copy and paste the following:

su -
zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.3/ mozilla
zypper ref

(a) to accept

zypper dup -r mozilla

Do not forget : Linux is not Windows nor OSX.
There is absolutely no need for simple users (who perform tasks as email, office and Internet surfing) to look on the web for software.
In openSUSE, you have got the YaST software manager that will look for all available software in the repositories you set up : consider taking a look at the wiki.
And, as told before : consider upgrade OpenSUSE
