I updated to 11.1 two days ago, today I turn on my computer and I see
the trash icon has disappeared.
Can any one help me understand what happened and how to recover it
I’m presuming you’re talking about KDE 4…Yeah…there’s no trashcan on
the desktop by default. I noticed that in RC1, but thought nothing of it
at the time…It looks like it slipped the developers’ minds, but I
could be wrong.
It’s easy enough to add as a widget.

I thought the same Wrath5000, it’s just that he said he updated, so I
assumed /home was still in place and kde4 would dump folder view with
the desktop in it wouldn’t it?
But, if it is kde4
Yes, right click, unlock widgets then add widget, …
Actually of course what you assume to be the desktop is not. Go to
dolphin and navigate to the desktop to see what is actually there,
As said you can add widget trash
or even folder view and set the folder to desktop as location
right clicking on the desktop, a menu with different options show up but
the add widget is not there. also the K symbol on the top right corner
of the desktop is not there.
As I said before, every thing was in its place after the update, but
not today
Hi,
I had the same initially. I noticed that the trash-icon’s default name
has been changed. If you edit the trash.desktop file in
/home/<user>/Desktop folder with any text editor you would notice
options like “EmptyIcon”. Change its value to “user-trash”. And an Icon
will appear on the desktop.

Right clicking does not show any of the two options you mentioned
