where the heck is all the software?

hey susers…
I been using suse since 11.0… and never had a problem finding any packages that I often use…
in 11.2, I have the repo’s that I need enabled… packman, backports, etc etc… But the packages that I ALWAYS use in other versions of Opensuse No longer appear in Yast…

a couple of examples are Lmms, ardour… they are ALWAYS in the repo… now they are not… arghh wots goin on? :’(

Maybe it is because the 11.2 repo’s aren’t finished yet? :sarcastic:

might I add it isn’t even in the Build Service… such common packages like that are in EVERY distro’s repo’s…???

This might answer your question (considering the current RC status of 11.2):

/dev/loki: Packman: transition to 11.2

cheers for that… although still Alot of packages I normally use are still not there… even in the factory repo…

ahwell… i guess i can’t complain until the final release comes out

The ones you mention: all Packman. For the time being some people use Packman’s Factory repo, others use the 11.1 repo. Factory is still missing a lot too.

Like many experienced users have stated: safest way is to wait a while after release date, then do a clean install, update, add repo’s. Packagers will have had some time to (re)build packages for the new distro.

Packman is now adding more and more

hmmmmm. opensuse 11.2 has been released a little while ago, and there is STILL alot of missing packages in the official repos/pacman and the build service… arghhhh this is frustrating… you would think that the repo’s should be ready to go by the time the final release comes out so that people don’t have to search the entire web for the packages they need…

why is it that this never happens in other distros such as *buntu’s, Mandriva etc:O
their repo’s seem to be just as big from the very start…:’(

Well we shouldn’t really complain as this is a free service. Just hope it doesn’t take to long before ardour is ready, do not want to compile it myself, tends to become a shambles.

Still, packman is really great!!

Yo do know that “beta” now refers to 11.3, do you not?

Yes, if you mean factory?

I am on OS11.2 and uses corresponding repo from packman. I responded on this thread as it is old but still has relevance. There are several applications still not packed. That is, of course, if they intend to pack them for 11.2 at all.

Sorry, what I missed was which sub-category I was in. I came here through a search:X
