Where is my office?

Hi.
I installed openoffice. installation seemed to go well, but openoffice doesn’t show up under main/applications/office.
in fact - it doesn’t show anywhere.
I did find it using “find files/folders” …in the folder:
/home/yaron/opt/openoffice.org3/program/
there’s a file called soffice of Type: Shell script
that runs openoffice.
How do I add this to my menu?

Thanks

How did you install. If from outside the repositories you will always need to add it to the menu.

So now we need to know what desktop you run.

Right click the menu icon should give you an Menu Edit option, but details will be different with different desktop environment.

Thanks for the quick response!!
it says KDE menu editor. is that enough?

Forget it. You have not installed openOffice from SUSE. Undo what you did,
and then install the proper openOffice using Yast.

i see you are new to this forum, -=welcome=-

and, from your question i can see that you used that so-last-century
method of adding applications (find the web site that makes it,
download it, install it, etc) that is just full of opportunity for
someone to slip you some harmful code…

don’t do that…instead do the new way, get your applications from
the openSUSE repos, using YaST…

another helper here told you right: remove the OO.o you installed
(there should be removal instructions near where you found the install
instructions…if not, keep looking) then open YaST, click on Software
Management, type openoffice in the search block and follow your
nose…simple…AND when finished it will be in your menu system AND
easy to uninstall, with YaST…

this century!
