The restricted format FAQ sticky (Restricted formats - openSUSE) mentions a package called “kde4-k3b”, but this doesn’t show up in my listing.
Which repository does kde4-k3b reside in?
11.2 KDE

It’s just k3b now
It’s in Packman
Follow this
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums
and make sure you add k3b-codecs
then finally do this:

Yes - those are the instructions I was following. Right at the end, you mention:
I use kde4-k3b and the codecs to match from Packman
Which I why I asked. Since switching to Packman will get you k3b from there, I assume I only have to add the k3b-codecs from Packman and we’re happy, not?
I’ll edit that Guide. Thanks
k3b and k3b-codecs will both come from Packman if you do as in that switch picture.
But, yes k3b-codecs is only supplied by Packman, whereas k3b is from eithe the SUSE repo OSS or from Packman. But to best support restricted formats we use the switch to get it from Packman, along with a number of other packages which a best supplied by Packman.
According to the instructions there, I had to do the “switch” twice, was that actually required, or could I have skipped the first switch?
Btw: it’s a great guide. Thanks for putting it together!
I believe the guide only shows one instance of the switch. I may have issued reference to it again in this thread using a different picture (but showing the same thing) May be this was the confusion? It is only needed once.
No - it’s in there twice: in the “UPDATED FOR 11.2” section, scroll to “Now we can move on to everything else:”. In that first paragraph it says:
If you see blue packages in the Packman repo – do the following:-
Viewing the Packman repo in 11.2 you will see a new feature which lets you switch vendor to Packman see: ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing
Accept.
Then after the package listing and instructions to install those, in BOLD face, the following:
Having added all these - Now go back to Software Management - Filter to Packman and do this: ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing
In my case, since the statement “If you see blue packages” was true, I had done the “switch” before installing the new packages.
Indeed you are correct and I again thank you
Corrections in place as really the switch is only needed the once.
