Where is firefox 146?

firefox 146 is already out for a while, but it is not available via yast.
the old firefox 145 disappeared as well.

wherefrom / how can I update firefox?

We exclusively use another browser (not FF). However, I am aware that the “openSUSE branded” release of FF is not as current as that released by Mozilla. Also, it’s the Extended Support Release, i.e., “140.6esr” (for Leap 15.6).

If I was a FF user, and if it was important to have the latest, I’d be inclined to open up Discover, and install the FF Flatpak, which is current. I suspect there might also be a “repo” listing available from Mozilla (like we use for the Brave and Chrome browsers).
.

You need to install an additional repository.

@suse_paul Firefox 146 for Leap 15.6 does not build because of rust packages.

does firefox build on OS 16.0?

When you have a look at the postet repo above, you will find v146 for Leap 16.0

if the linux version of firefox from the mozilla website is installed on OS 15.6, what will not work compared to the OS adaptions?
did anyone try?

JFYI: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1255284

The tar.gz from the Mozilla website always work.

if “work” means it can be started, then yes.
on a quick try I could immediately see a download manager integration not working.

It also depends on the amount of data you provide. Where did you store Firefox? At the recommended place from Mozilla? At your home? Somewhere else? Which „Download manager“? Which integration? Firefox has its own download manager and does not need external tools for it.

The upstream Firefox always „works“ in its intended way as a browser.

that’s what I meant.
compared to the OS version, the version directly from mozilla requires adaption

This might provide useful information … but it is obvious that Mozilla has a focus on Debian-based distros.
(which is why I’d choose using the Flatpak (one click install and future updates) … as is also detailed in this article):

Firefox is distribution neutral. That is why they provide it as tar.bz2, flatpak, snap, deb…,

This also applies for the other download and installation options.

Only the distribution specific packages need to wait for the updates from the distribution package manager. The tar.bz2 has the big advantage, that the internal auto updater is enabled. And no bloat from flatpak needed…

Erm Guys, I’m not sure if you got the message of the OP. Never mind 146. We both have got 145 installed, but it is gone from the “additional” repo:

pluto:~ # zypper se -si MozillaFirefox
Repository-Daten werden geladen...
Installierte Pakete werden gelesen...

S | Name | Type | Version | Arch | Repository

i+ | MozillaFirefox | Paket | 145.0-lp156.2.1 | x86_64 | (Systempakete)
i+ | MozillaFirefox-branding-openSUSE | Paket | 68-lp156.21.1 | x86_64 | Mozilla
i+ | MozillaFirefox-translations-common | Paket | 145.0-lp156.2.1 | x86_64 | (Systempakete)
pluto:~ #

This is where it came from:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_Leap_15.6/

We got it. 146 doesn’t build on 15.6. I’ve seen the reports. But what about 145? I never got Firefox from any other source than the Mozilla repo. What happened?

Did you read the comment in the linked bugreport? It was a mistake of the maintainer.

Ah, no. Sorry. But after that post the tread moved to a strange direction. Makes more sense, now.

How does that one get updates?

Cf. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux#w_system-firefox-installation-for-advanced-users and https://www.firefox.com/de/browsers/desktop/linux/

Please, see the screenshot.

I marked some area about info. On my macOS and Windows, there it is different: there, there is an update info and button.
