'Where have all the repos gone?' - again, my version of openSuSE - missing (11.2)

Warning… I’m not happy and I have a very limited, English vocabulary…

This happens to me yearly… Why?
I have 11 systems at home and some work so well at the ‘level’ or release that they are, That I like to leave them there.
The system I’m on right now, the one I use the Most is 11.2 / KDE 4.3.5…
I works Great. I use it most of the time.
NOW, once again, opensuse has removed the update directory for it, just like you guy (gals) did for my IBM Thinkpad running 9…, 10, 11.1… Why do you keep removing them?
11.2 is not that old and I will NOT upgrade to KDE 4.5 on this system.
There are Too many problems with 4.4 and 4.5 with 11.2
Biggest problem is gwenview… those little fags messed up the zoom and i hate it.

Anyways. where did you now move this repo? : Index of /repositories/home:/subik… I need it to keep my kwrite, which I use the Most. It’s what I use to edit my php, html, css with All day Every Day! (this is not the only repo missing, but all of openSUSE_11.2 is )

Where can I find it?

Please, quit deleting things… Again, 11.2 is not that far removed…
If you’ve ‘moved’ them, would it be too much to leave a ‘text’ file in the root?

I love my 11.4 / KDE 4.6, on my 64bit laptop, but I don’t want to be Forced into that major an ‘update’ to my most used machine… Period.

Thanks, I hope I was not too mean,

Landis.
p.s.
all of 11.2 even :http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/deltafox/openSUSE_11.2
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_11.2/
etc…
Everything openSUSE_11.2… Missing.
*[edit]http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.2/ is still there…[/edit]

11.2 is end of life
You need to upgrade

uninformed, yes!

there are currently only two versions of openSUSE supported: 11.3 and
11.4, and while 11.2 went end of life last week (or two weeks ago) 11.3
will go the same way on January 15th 2012, and 11.4 on September 15th 2012…

if that is too fast for you, you might want to look at project Evergreen
which is an attempt at prolonging the life of the previously supported
11.1 and 11.2…

or, since you have so many systems involved perhaps you want to look at
an even longer life product, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop or
Server…which are good for like five years or so…but, require
purchase of updates after the initial 60 or 90 day trial…

Doubtful - he sounds more like the “if it ain’t broke” type than the
bleeding edge type. I can relate to that.

Thank You for this information, as this is the first time since my become a loyal SuSE user/purchaser during ver. 6 or 7 and a openSuSE advocate during the beta of 9… Спасибо.

It is too fast… Lets say as with MicroSucks and windows 95, you had No choice but to use windows /me (as it was 2 vers past 95, second being 98 and 98se)… we all know how it sucked, or xp went totally away, i don’t mean just stop patching, but files went away and you had no choice but to ‘upgrade’ to ‘vista’ (what a laugh that would have been). You get my point… If something works, why mess with it…
I agree and do, use the current highest release for any New system, but the ones that are running just fine… Leave them and when a new app or util is installed, sometimes you need libs and the such… But… If the repos are gone???

Again, thanks and I have been buying ‘boxed’ SuSE since release 8 or 9, I’d have to go look at my boxes…

Believe it or not, I still have a Thinkpad A23 that I installed my first purchased ‘box’ version of SuSE 9 on, up and running fine. I’ve ‘updated’ it over time to 9.0x, 9.1 and 9.2 or what ever, but it’s still and and I have one that is 10.x too.

Again, Thank You… in the 3 or 4 years of my complaining about the ‘missing’ directories (this is not the first time), You are the first to take the time to explain…

Thank you , Спасибо
Landis Ree.
p.s., Now if I can only get the people(editted by Forums Team) over at KDE to loose the ‘dolphin’ and reup konqueror as the file manager, my life will be great.

Not sure about earlier version but in 11.4 you can select
konqueror to be your default file manager in Configure
Desktop/System Settings/Workspace Appearance and
Behavior/Default Application/File Manager/.

This may help you

Dear Landis,

I do understand your problem, and like posted before, openSUSE has a life cycle which eventually ends. The end of the life cycle means that updates are no longer launched for that software and users should update to a supported release, which will deliver critical and security updates.

I’m not a KDE user (last version I tried out was 1.1.1 Alpha), so I don’t really know how to pre-define Konqueror as your default file browser, but I’m almost sure it’s possible. Just ask around on people, and you will most likely get an answer. I just don’t believe it’s the correct thing to dub KDE developers as ‘fools’, specially when KDE developers are very active amongst the community and really care to help their users. It just doesn’t doesn’t nice to me to call the ‘fools’.

The beauty in open source software is that you have other options if you want, but I believe it’s possible to predefine Konqueror as file browser, something that maybe a KDE user will be helpful to show how.

Best of luck,
NM
