Where has knews gone under KDE4?

It’s been only recently that I began using KDE4PIM, since I preferred the KDE3 version. After much searching and fussing I have my mail moved from the KDE3 version to kDE4.

What I can’t find yet is a usenet news reader (knews) that came as part of the KDE3 KDEPIM. Am I just missing something, or do I need to go back to the KDE3 version to get my usenet feeds?

Bye the way, I’m using OpenSuse 13.1 with KDE4

Thanks, Bob

Are you sure that it wasn’t “knode”? That still exists, but is not part of a standard install. It is in the repos.

I think you may be correct. Thanks!

Knode is in the standard oss repo. Not installed by default, but YaST
finds it without adding another repo

Knode hasn’t been actively supported for many years but it still works
after a fashion, though any reported bugs are likely to be ignored. A
stand-alone newsreader that I’d recommend is Pan, which is also
available via openSUSE standard repos.

Having said that, I’m using Claws as I prefer a newsreader more tightly
linked to a mail client.

Several nntp programs seem to receive little or no maintenance, it doesn’t
seem to be a very popular protocol. But the programs can be considered
stable, need little change.

I’m writing this with knode, I haven’t noticed issues. I simply prefer
Thunderbird.
