Where do these hardware requirements come from? 2.5 GB hardware space? The ISO of both 32bit and 64bit are over 4.0 GB already!

As caf4926 has explained, not everything on the media gets installed by default. But also bear in mind that the software packages are compressed on the media, and when expanded, will take much more than 4GB. Not to mention the vast amount of software only in the online repos. Truly an embarrassment of riches.
PS: 2.5GB disk space is nothing these days unless you have a small SSD or something like that.
