What is this system monitor (in the lower right hand corner of the screen) called and where can I find it?
its called gkrellm, it should be in the repos, do a search 
also in the future, please post a link to the screenshot so that it won’t mess up the forum layout

As micro said it is in the repos you will also want the themes package, if
you go to the gkrellm site ( a bit out of date ) it is also possible to grab
some extra plugins, bit fiddly to get some working but there are stacks of
stuff out there.
I have been using this app for years and it is the one that I am loath to do
without even with all the snazzy looking plasmoids around I still use it
here on all machines, CPU usage, Sensors, drive stats, LAN, Wifi, mail
check, keyboard indicators etc… etc… can be run as a deamon and remotely
monitored.
The only one problem is that my favourite theme the “Invisible” theme (
totally transparent ) does not work in KDE correctly and so does not show as
transparent, works super in xfce and gnome though.
Other than that it is a great little monitor.
If you have a look back in the screen shot forum about a month or so there
is one of my screens with it running, I might just put another one there
later.

ok thanks and I’ll be sure not to do it again 
and thanks baskitcaise I’ll think about doing that…though for now the one in the repos looks just fine (mines doesn’t look the same as the one in the screen shot) but it is defiantly a handy little tool I have a laptop and the temp monitors are really nice lets me know when (9 times out of 10, flash) the computers getting to hot and to kill [flash] before my laptop just shuts off (not really an easy way to completely clean out the ventilation system on mine) thanks

The gkrellm invisible theme can work with kde 4.2 or 4.3 in your case because you have xfce installed. The trick is you have to run xfdesktop inside kde 4.2 or 4.3 to attain the effect of the invisible theme. Note, use the run command not the terminal, I say this because running xfdesktop using terminal will kill it as soon as you exit the terminal. additionally your xfce desktop wallpaper should be the same as your kde 4.2 or 4.3 wallpaper to have the gkrellm transparent background the same as your kde background.
